On Tuesday, unknown gunmen killed High Chief Philip Chinonso Udala (owner of Udala FC in the Nigeria National League) club.
Udala FC General Manager Henry Chinye, and Ralph Chidozie George, Media Consultant, confirmed Udala FC’s death in a press release.
It was confirmed that Udala was also killed with his manager, Godsent Eriobu, and other members of his convoy.
The release stated that “It is with deepest regret and an collective broken heart that I announce the untimely passing of our President, High Chief Philip Chinonso Udala [Nwanweniteaku Idemili]].”
“Chief Udala tragically died on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, when unknown gunmen attacked his convoy, killing him along with our manager, Godsent Eriobu, and other members of the team.
“The Club’s primary thoughts are with the Udala Family during this time of unimaginable loss.
“As a family, as well as the players, management and technical crew, we are saddened by his passing. We hope to carry on his vision for the team and leave a lasting legacy.
“The Anambra football community and Nigerian football in general have lost one the most passionate players of the game.
“He was a member of the Anambra State football Association’s (ANSFA) Caretaker Committee that was established by NFF to reposition football within the State in 2020.
“In February 2021, he sponsored Udala Preseason Tournament that involved 8 South East teams. He then followed up with Udala Scouting Programme which involved another eight teams.
“Udala was kind and generous, his love for football was unbridled.
Godsent Eriobu, our Team Manager, was truly Godsent to us as he was there as a pioneer player and captain from the beginning. He was also Secretary of the Anambra Independent Football League.
“In these difficult times, we are grateful for the support and solidarity shown by the football family.
“His family will announce his funeral.”
