A statement by the ministry was shared Wednesday. Zenith Bank (N100 million), Access Bank (N200 million), and Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), have all agreed to donate a combined sum of $200,000 to the D’Tigers/D’Tigress to take on the world in Tokyo within a few days.

Three commercial banks have adopted the Nigerian women and men basketball teams ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, according to the ministry of youth and sports development.

This development is part of an adoption initiative by the ministry of sport to assist athletes’ preparations for the Olympics.

The statement stated that the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development’s Adoption Initiative yielded more fruit on Wednesday when three commercial banks donated $200,000 (N100 million) to adopt the National Men’s Basketball Team D’Tigers and D’Tigress, who are both heading to the Tokyo Olympics.

“The Ministry noted the prompt response of Zenith, Access, and Guarantee Trust banks to Mr. Sunday Dare’s appeal for corporate organizations to adopt the national team.

“D’Tigers received $100,000, while D’Tigress got $100,000 to support their participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”

The D’Tigers are in group B with Australia, Italy, and Germany.

D’Tigress is also in group B, where they are expected to play France, Japan, and the USA.

The Olympics will be held from July 23 through August 8, with the basketball event starting on the third day.
