It is not a new incidence for music artistes to float their own labels. Several Nigerian music stars have successfully launched their record label shortly after departing from the company that groomed them. Some of the Nigerian music artistes that created their own record label after leaving their previous label include Wizkid, D’Banj, Harrysong, Davido, Wande Coal, and Ice Prince Zamani just to mention a few.
Bolanle crooner, Zlatan Ibile was previously signed to Alleluia Boys Entertainment but has now left the outfit to set up his own record label. Zlatan had a memorable year as he churned out club bangers and collaborated with other music artistes like Burna Boy, Davido, Chinko Ekun, and Naira Marley to produce hit songs.
On January 1st, 2020, Zlatan announced the establishment of his entertainment company/record label, ‘Zanku Records’. Zlatan’s move to create his own music group was done shortly after Naira Marley launched his own record label, Marlian Music.
Initially, he didn’t unveil any signing except for his pet, “Astalavi The Dog”. On Zlatan’s 25th birthday (dated February 11, 2020), the artiste subtly hinted that his label has 7 artistes along with his music manager, music producer, PR consultant, and video director. However, we can authoritatively confirm that Zanku Records has three artistes namely, Papisnoop, JamoPyper and Oberz.
Despite having four artistes on its roster, Zanku Records seem to be on the lookout for music artistes to sign. In this post, you will learn how to join Zanku Records.
In this section, we will provide you with what you need to do to get signed to Zanku Records.
1. Make Good Songs
The secret to making it to the limelight as a musician is by crafting good songs. Most musicians claim to be highly talented in making songs, but their songs are wack and unsuitable for public consumption. To make a hit song in Nigeria, you must get a catchy phrase as the song title, get a good sound engineer or music producer to make the song.
The song must be properly mixed and mastered after you must have done your recording. You should not be complacent in making one song, make more songs and collaborate with other music artistes. Doing this will immensely grow your music career.
2. Promote Your Songs
After making a good song, many artistes kill the song by keeping it on their phones, playing it on their sound system or sharing it with their friends only. Promoting your songs help you win more fans, it also gives you connections to record label executives, managers and personalities in the music industry.
Without a doubt, music promotion is expensive. Many artistes do not have the funds to promote their songs on radio stations, television stations, online websites and digital music platforms. If you lack funds to promote your music, you can consider selling your music on digital music platforms like iTunes, Tidal, Amazon, Spotify, Spinlet, Apple Music, Shazam etc. Some entertainment and news websites may charge you some fee to upload and promote your music on their website.
If you have a reasonable budget, you can consider hiring a PR agency or consultant to help you promote your music. Thanks to social media, any music artiste can freely promote their songs online. Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and Twitter are helpful for online promotion. Moreover, you can also consider creating a YouTube channel to upload your music videos.
3. Feature Zanku Records Artistes
You can get the attention of Zlatan if you feature or collaborate with any of the artistes in Zanku Records. Supposing you want to make an Afropop single, you can collaborate with Oberz or JamoPyper. If you are conversant with the aforementioned artistes, you can talk to them to recommend you to their CEO to sign.
You may not get signed immediately, but eventually, you will get signed if Zlatan likes your sound or if there’s an available slot in the label for you to fit in.
4. Contact Zlatan Ibile
Lastly, another thing that you should do to join Zanku records is to contact Zlatan, the owner of the label. Most artistes contact Zlatan through his social media handles by sending a tweet or Direct Message (DM). Certainly, Zlatan Ibile receives lots of messages from his fans & followers, and he may not read yours. Nevertheless, that shouldn’t deter your aspirations, keep trying till you get his attention.
Contacting Zlatan will be a challenge for people who do not have his direct phone number or email. However, anyone can reach out to Zlatan by first contacting his management or the artistes on his roster.
Contact Zlatan’s manager by mail or telephone, talk your way into telling him how talented you are and why you want to be on Zanku Records. You must understand that Zanku records receive lots of messages from upcoming music artistes who want to join the label.
Therefore, try to make an impression by sending your demo or songs for listening. If you are considered, they may invite you to their studio to sign a recording contract or make music together.
Getting signed to Zanku Records will be a dream for many music artistes, however, not every musician will get signed to Zanku Records. One of the major benefits of becoming a member of Zanku Records is that you get a recording contract, an official car and an apartment. You also get featured in Zlatan songs and videos as well as shoot top-notch music video production for your songs.
Also, the celebrity status of Zlatan can help your career by helping you collaborate with A-List music stars. For instance, JamoPyper has a new song with DMW artiste, Mayorkun and the song is doing well on the music charts.
Do you believe in your dreams? Do you want to get signed to Zanku records? Without a doubt, implementing the tips in this post can help you secure a record deal with Zanku records. Congratulations in advance. If you found this helpful, leave a comment and share this post.
It’s no more news that Naira Marley has floated his own record label, Marlian Music. Getting signed by a record label these days is tough, a lot of young talents perish because there’s no one to groom and sponsor their music careers.
Fortunately, the CEO of Marlian Music, Naira Marley has opened the door for young and upcoming musicians to join his record label. Irrespective of your religion and style of music, you can join the Marlian Record and actualize your dreams of becoming a music star. In this post, I will show you the steps and things that you need to do to get signed to Marlian Music.
Naira Marley announced the launch of his record label, Marlian Records on December 30th 2019, during the maiden edition of his music concert, ‘Marlian Fest’ held in Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The announcement was welcomed by cheers and excitement from the audience, who were least expecting to hear the news.
Shortly after the announcement, Naira Marley unveiled four music artistes, MohBad, C-Blvck, Fabian Blu and Zinoleesky. The signing of four artistes in less than 24 hours after launch is a clear indication that Marlian Music is in for serious business. Naira Marley took the step further to sign three new acts, EMO Grae, Lyta and Tori Keeche, which makes it 7 artistes on the roster of his company. It is likely that Marlian Music Records will be signing more artistes in the long run.
Lyta was formerly under YBNL but has now joined Marlians Records while Tori Keeche is the first female music artiste to be signed to Naira Marley’s record label. Are you interested in joining Marlian Records? Do you want to fulfil your dreams of becoming the next superstar? If yes, then the Marlian Records can help you.
A lot of people just want to become a music artiste simply because of the fame and the money. They are not interested in training themselves on vocal ability, technique, songwriting, dancing, and show performance.
Getting fame and money is quite good, but will you get there without good songs? You need good songs to get fans, to get featured by top artistes and blow. If your songs are not good enough, no one will listen to them – except you. Talent in this context doesn’t relate to vocal ability only, your ability to write hit songs also make you talented.
Some artistes are great at songwriting, give them a pen and paper and they will compose a club banger for you. If you are this type of artiste, you can get signed by Marlian Music. For instance, Peruzzi is highly talented in crafting hit songs, his talent and songwriting ability secured him a record deal at Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) records.
You should have songs that showcase your talent and musical prowess. Get a good recording studio, find your sound and start making good songs. It is also important that you find events and shows to perform and display your gift. You shouldn’t turn down shows even if they are free. Performing at shows gives you boldness, your stage performance can guarantee you a recording contract with a record label.
Skales for instance was discovered by Banky W in a show. Subsequently, he was signed to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). While on shows, you can be connected to some big names in the industry. Luckily for you, you may bump into Naira Marley, Davido, Don Jazzy or any other record label executive in a show.
2. Have a Good Social Media Following
As a musician, you need to be conscious and observant of your fanbase. Your fanbase is very important because it plays a part in helping you succeed in the industry. If your new song is loved by people, there is a tendency that people will share it, play it in their shops and on their phones and make it trend online.
The bottom line is for you to have a fanbase. If you don’t have one, then this is the right time for you to build one. Sharing your songs with your friends and few family members will not make you blow, or make your song popular. You can leverage today’s world where anyone can access the internet by creating social media handles to promote your songs.
Zinoleesky for instance became known on Instagram for his tongue-twisting raps in the Yoruba language. His social media popularity got him a record deal at Marlian Music. Also, Lil Frosh is another social media sensation who became popular for his vibrant rap skits on social media. It was Davido who signed Lil Frosh to DMW after watching some of his videos online.
Go to Twitter and Facebook or better still, Instagram, sign up and create a befitting profile. Your stage name should make up your username or part of your username – this is done for identification purposes. In essence, your page must be brandable. If your stage name is Queen Sugar, you may consider using it as your username or profile name on social media.
Post the links to your songs and song graphic cover to your page, and ask your followers to repost or retweet. Support other music artistes, tag them, comment on their posts and repost their songs. Most importantly, you must be active and consistent to build a huge following on social media.
3. Your Style of Music
Style of music is another determinant that can get you signed to Marlian Records. Looking at the list of music artistes on Naira Marley’s record roster, virtually all artistes are Afropop artistes. The current singers on the label are Lyta, Zinoleesky, Fabian Blu, Tori Keeche and EMO Grae while the rappers are C Black and MohBad.
The style of these artistes are almost the same, they are Afropop hitmakers. You’ll hardly find any of them making gospel, jazz, RnB, or alternative music. Therefore, if you make street music, you stand a high chance of getting signed to Naira Marley record label.
However, if you do not compose street music, you can stay true to your genre. Surely, your effort and hard work will pay off in the long run. You can consider making a cover of any of Naira Marley’s popular songs like Mafo, Soapy, Am I A Yahoo Boy, Puta, Opotoyi.
Get the instrumental or ask your producer to make a remake of the beat, jump on the song and make a hit. Afterwards, you can consider sending the song to Naira Marley to listen to. Luckily for you, you can get signed if the music wins the hearts of the Marlian President.
There are many benefits that you’ll enjoy if you are signed to Marlian Records. First of all, you can get to feature A-List artistes in your songs and you can also get featured on Naira Marley’s songs, albums and projects. For instance, CBlack came to the limelight after he featured Naira Marley in ‘Ogologo’.
Since ‘Marlian’ is a code name for all Naira Marley fans and followers, your songs are expected to reach a large number of people. Naira Marley is a popular figure in the Nigerian music industry, he has lots of followers on social media and many fans all over the world. He can use his influence to promote and hype your music so that you too can shine. This is the reason why the songs of Zinoleesky, CBlack, MohBad and Fabian Blu are doing well.
You’ll also have your songs produced by top producers like Rexxie, Killertunes, Sarz Young John, etc. And your songs are expected to get airplay from the media. Getting signed to Marlian Music can be a dream come true if you get it right. We hope that this article has provided you with the information that you need to join Marlian Records. If you operate a Nigerian bank account, then you can fund your Opay account by transferring money from your bank account to Opay. With this method, you can fund your account without using an ATM card.
Now, all that you need to do is to make an online transfer from your bank, that is, if you are using your bank’s mobile banking app and internet banking system.
Most importantly, if you are using this method, you have to know or have the phone number you used to register on the Opay platform. Your phone number functions as the Opay account you are about to fund.
For instance, if the phone number you used to register for Opay is 07044098873, what this means is that your Opay account number is 7044098873 (the first number is omitted). So, if you want to send money from your bank to your Opay wallet, the account to pay is 7044098873.
There are many commercial banks in Nigeria that support payment to OPay wallet. They include the following:
First City Monument Bank (FCMB).
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
Stanbic IBTC Bank.
United Bank for Africa (UBA).
If your bank was mentioned in the list of the above Nigerian banks, you should be able to make a deposit in your Opay wallet right from your mobile banking app.
Launch your mobile banking app on your smartphone.
Navigate the menu and select the ‘ Transfer Funds ‘ option.
Select the ‘Transfer to other Banks’ option.
While going through the list of banks, select Paycom (Opay).
Now enter your Opay account number. (Remember that your Opay wallet number is the phone number that you entered when you registered to use the Opay platform, the account number must be ten numbers, so remove the first number. This means that if your phone number is 07044098873 remove the first digit, this means that your Opay account number is 7044098873).
The name you used in your Opay account registration will be displayed to you.
Enter the amount you wish to send.
Confirm and complete the transaction.
A lot of people prefer this method because they are experiencing issues in funding their accounts from the app. Also, some people don’t feel comfortable linking their ATM to their Opay account.
